National Advocates Council – About Us

The National Advocates Council is an autonomous, non-political, legal and social organization, established with the objective of safeguarding, empowering, and ensuring the holistic development of the legal services, rights, duties, and professional dignity of advocates across India. The Council works persistently to unite the legal fraternity and build a strong, organized, and responsible platform of legal professionals, while upholding the constitutional values and ethical foundations of the Indian legal system.T).

The Council believes that an advocate is not merely a courtroom litigator, but an integral and living force of the judiciary — one of the four essential pillars of democracy. The role of an advocate extends beyond mere litigation; it encompasses legal awareness, social reform, protection of human rights, and the promotion of legal literacy.

The National Advocates Council brings together advocates from all corners of the country onto a common platform to safeguard their professional, social, and legal interests in a structured and strategic manner. The Council firmly believes that only when advocates are organized, educated, protected, and empowered, can the judiciary become more sensitive, effective, and accessible to the people.

The Council’s vision is to redefine legal service not as a profession alone, but as a solemn national service, and to instill a sense of social responsibility in every advocate. To this end, the Council engages in activities such as legal literacy campaigns, public awareness drives, free legal aid services, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), Lok Adalats, legal camps, and more — all aimed at ensuring that justice reaches the most marginalized sections of society.

The organization draws inspiration from Article 39-A of the Constitution of India, which mandates the provision of equal access to justice through legal aid, and works to ensure that no citizen is denied justice due to economic weakness or social inequality.

The National Advocates Council is not only a collective voice of Indian advocates but also a structured national forum that actively works to uphold their dignity, workplace safety, legal rights, professional development, and participation in legal policymaking. It facilitates training for young advocates, experience-sharing among senior legal professionals, and nationwide coordination for legal reforms.

In essence, the Council provides a platform that unites, empowers, and amplifies the voice of advocates, ensuring their proactive role as stakeholders in the nation's legal and democratic framework.
